For my final essay, I will write about my trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, with my parents, sister, and grandparents. I will start by writing about the drive there because I was full of excitement, but also very uncomfortable with six people in my grandpa’s car, with plenty of suitcases and other travel necessities packed in between us. The trip was going really well until my grandpa got a call that his nephew killed himself on the third day that we were there. This news was already sad enough, but as the young kid I was, I was extremely disappointed we would have to turn right back around and drive around sixteen hours home in the cramped car. I remember waking up the day we had to leave and bawling because I did not want to leave our condo right next to the beach. To make the trip even worse, there were bed bugs in the condo that made us all paranoid once we got home. Although the trip wasn’t anything like we would have hoped, I learned that we need to embrace every day we have on a vacation because something may not go as expected. My family always looks back at this failed trip and we realize that bad trips can still make interesting memories to look back at.
