Rick Steves
Being the only one in the class with familiarity of Rick Steves, I was expecting his writing to be less serious and more corny based on the many videos that I have watched of him in Spain. Rick Steves had an interesting perspective on travel in that he acknowledged that we need to immerse ourselves in other cultures rather than just being American tourists or bystanders. One of his main points was from a political perspective, pointing out that travelers need to realize how much Americans have compared to these other lower class countries. Rick Steves acknowledges his own faults of siding with cultural imperialism, but realizes that his beliefs were unjust and that they should not be a part of him while he travels. In the article, he breaks down the barrier of discussing politics of other countries and America and attempts to make it more of a necessary and beneficial topic to talk about.
